Population: Junction City is growing at a steady pace. Between 1990 and 2007, Junction City's population increased by 71.5% from 3,670 to 5,135 residents and is the fifth largest city in Lane County. The annual growth rate for the City during this time period was 1.8% which was higher than Lane County and the State (1.0% and 1.4% respectively). Junction City's population is projected to increase to 9,800 by the year 2030.
Ethnicity: Junction City is becoming more ethnically diverse. The non-white population grew by 7.2% between 1990 and 2000. Hispanic and Latinos make up a larger percentage of the population in Junction City (8.3%) compared to Lane County and Oregon (4.6% and 8.0% respectively).
Age: The 2000 Census indicates Junction City has a higher percentage of youth (27.1%) and elderly (14.9%) than Lane County (22.9% and 13.3% respectively) or the State (24.7% and 12.8% respectively). Between 1990 and 2000, the elderly population in Junction City decreased from 18.7% to 14.9% while the elderly population in Lane County increased slightly from 13.1% to 13.3%.
Income: Junction City has a lower median family income ($43,875) and lower per capita income than either Lane County or the State ($45,111 and $48,680 respectively). Income levels may be attributed to a lower percentage of residents in the work force compared to Lane County and the state given the percentage of youth an elderly population in Junction City.
Housing Tenure: More residents in Junction City are becoming home owners. Between 1990 and 2000, the percentage of home owners increased from 45.9% to 56.4% while renters decreased from 54.1% to 43.6%.
Housing Types: While national, state and Lane County trends show the percentage of all households with children has been declining since 1990 (46% in 1990 to 31% in 2000 in the US), the percentage of households with children has actually increased in Junction City from 32% in 1990 to 33% in 2000. In 1990, the State, Lane County and Junction City all had similar households make up where between 32% and 33% of all households were households with children. By 2000, these household types decreased to 29% in Oregon and 26% in Lane County.
